
MISSIONS TO STATE PARTIES The Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa undertakes mission to State Parties to the African Charter to compile information on women’s rights issues and to promote the rights of women according to her mandate. Since the creation of the Special Mechanism on the Rights of Women in Africa, visits have been conducted to Liberia (26-31 May 1999), Burundi (14-22 March 2000), Rwanda (22-26 March 2000), Chad (12-20 September 2000), Cote d'Ivoire (5-8 February 2001), Nigeria (20 February-2 March 2001), Angola (27 September- 2 October 2002), Djibouti (14-17 Sept 2002), Sudan (30 March -4 April 2003), Sao Tome and Principe (15-19 March 2004) and Cape Verde (26-30 September 2005). During her country visits, the Special Rapporteur meets with representatives of the various governmental bodies such as the ministry of justice, women affairs, and agriculture. Meetings are also arranged with Judges and Presidents of national tribunals, as well as with religious leaders. The Special Rapporteur attempts to meet with all relevant organisations working on women issues that are based in the country visited. A report on each country visit is thereafter prepared and presented to the African Commission for adoption. The following mission reports are available in electronic version:
