Promotion mission to the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria 25 March – 1 April 2007

On the invitation of the government of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria, the African Commission will undertake a mission to the country aimed at the promotion of human rights. The mission will be undertaken by three members of the African Commission, namely:
- Ambassador, Salamata Sawadogo, Chairperson of the ACHPR and member of the Commission responsible for human rights promotion in Algeria ;
- Dr. Angéla Melo, Member of the ACHPR and Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa ; and
- Me. Reine Alapini Gansou, Member of the ACHPR and Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders in Africa.
During the mission, the delegation will meet and hold discussions with a wide range of stakeholders working in the field of human rights in the country, including government officials and institutions, civil society organizations, academic institutions and any other individual, organizations or international agency capable of enlightening the African Commission on the human rights situation in the country.
The aim of the mission is to engage these human rights stakeholders in constructive dialogue on appropriate ways and means of enhancing the promotion of human rights in the country.
