INVITATION TO THE 40 H ORDINARY SESSION OF THE AFRICAN COMMISSION

15TH TO 29TH NOVEMBER 2006

I have the honour to invite all Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with observer status before the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights to the 40 th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, which is scheduled to take place in Banjul, The Gambia, from 15 - 29 November 2006. The Draft Agenda of the Session is herewith attached.

Travel and accommodation expenses relating to the participation of representative(s) are expected to be borne by their respective organisations. Participants are advised to contact the hotels directly for their room reservations. I nformation regarding hotels available in Banjul, may be obtained from the Information Note to Participants posted on the African Commission’s Website: www.achpr.org.

Non-ECOWAS participants are required to obtain visas before leaving their countries for Banjul. However, those without diplomatic representation of The Gambia in their countries would be issued visas on arrival at the Banjul International Airport on presentation of their invitation to the Session to the immigration officials. Participants are required to take the necessary vaccinations and travel with their vaccination cards.

The preliminary registration form, which is attached herewith, should be completed and returned to the Secretariat of the African Commission in Banjul, The Gambia, by 2 nd of November, 2006.

Participants wishing to contribute papers or speak on any of the agenda items should please inform the Secretariat of the African Commission in advance and submit their papers/contributions to the latter, not less than two (2) weeks before the beginning of the Session.
