INVITATION TO THE 39TH ORDINARY SESSION OF THE AFRICAN COMMISSION

11TH TO 25TH MAY 2006

I have the homour to inform National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs)granted affiliate status with the African Commission, that the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights will take place in Banjul, The Gambia, from 11th to 25th May 2006 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel, and that they are cordially invited to participate.

NHRIs are expected to bear travel and accommodation expenses relating to the participation of their representative(s). Information regarding hotels available in Banjul, may be obtained from the Information Note to Participants, posted on the African Commission's Website: www.achpr.org. The Secretariat will not be responsible for making hotel reservations for participants. They should please make their bookings directly with the hotels.

Non-ECOWAS participants are required to obtain visas before leaving their countries. Those without diplomatic representation of The Gambia in their countries would be issued visas on arrival at the Banjul International Airport provided they show their invitation to the Session to the immigration officials. Participants are required to take the necessary vaccinations and travel with their vaccination cards.

The preliminary registration form, attached herewith, should be filled and returned to the Secretariat of the African Commission in Banjul, The Gambia, by 10th April 2006.

Participants wishing to contribute papers or speak on any of the agenda items should please inform the Secretariat of the African Commission in advance and submit their papers/contributions to the latter not less than two (2) weeks before the beginning of the Session.
