Promotional mission to Swaziland
PRESS RELEASE
The Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights wishes to inform the general public that on the invitation of the Government of the Kingdom of Swaziland, the African Commission will undertake a human rights promotion mission to the Kingdom from 21 – 25 August 2006.
This mission, which is part of the African Commission’s promotional mandate, is aimed at encouraging dialogue between the African Commission and the Kingdom, and exchanging views with major stakeholders on ways and means of enhancing the enjoyment of human rights in the Kingdom.
The Mission will be undertaken by Adv. Faith Pansy Tlakula, Member of the African Commission responsible for the promotion of human rights in the Kingdom of Swaziland. She will be accompanied by Mr. Robert Wundeh Eno, Legal Officer for Protection at the Secretariat of the African Commission.
During the Mission, the delegation will meet and hold talks with a cross-section of human rights actors in the Kingdom, especially those working in the field of human rights promotion: including in particular, relevant government ministries, members of parliament, members of the judiciary, the police, civil society organisations, political party leaders, and other individuals or institutions capable of enlightening the African Commission on the human rights situation in the Kingdom.
At the end of the mission, the preliminary findings shall be discussed with the relevant government authorities, including the King. A Press Conference will also be held to brief the press and the general public on these findings.
