Information about www.achpr.org

    The new www.achpr.org website was rebuilt from scratch. The old ACHPR website you can access at old.achpr.org. The most important changes in terms of content, navigation and functionality are described below. Don't hesitate to contact the ACHPR webmaster (email: webmaster [at] achpr.org) if you have any questions.

    Multilingual website

    The website can be navigated in English, French, Portuguese and Arabic. The titles of all pages were translated in four languages, but not the content. i.e. there may be a mission report available only in english, but at least the title of the report is translated.

    State Reporting

    The number of overdue reports is calculated automatically:

    • the difference (in months) between current date and the date of submission of the latest report of a state is being calculated;
    • If the difference is less then 2 years (24 months), the state has no overdue reports and is colored in green;
    • based on the difference in months, yellow and red colors are being used;
    • states that have not ratified African Charter a colored in gray.

    Notice that the date of submission of the latest report is being used, instead of the reporting period mentioned in the report.

    The last column in the states list denotes the ratification status (to which extent the states have ratified binding instruments). A more detailed explanation is provided below the states list.

    The list of states is sorted alphabeticaly, but can also be sorted by ACHPR Ratification, number of Overdue Reports and Ratification Status

    State Reports and Concluding Observations

    To get the list of State Reports and Concluding Observations for a state you should visit the corresponding state page. Statistics by State and Session

    Fulltext search with faceting

    The contents of the whole website (including PDF, DOC files) is available for search.

    A breakdown by Type, State, Special Mechanism, Session and Year is available on the right side. The country list is visualy complemented by an Interactive Map: click a country to narrow the search.

    A search example: display all documents that contain the word evictions of type Mission Report within Working Group on Indigenous Populations/Communities in Africa. See search results.

    Instrument Ratification Tables

    Instruments that require ratification are displayed in the first list on Legal Instruments page. For these instruments, the ratification table is available (see the Ratification Table link on the right side of an instrument page).

    The ratification table is sorted by state, you may alternatively sort by Date of Signature, Ratification Date and Date of Deposition.

    Each state page features a Ratification Tables link on the bottom-left part.

    The ratification table is sorted by the title of the legal instrument, you may alternatively sort by Date of Signature, Ratification Date and Date of Deposition.

    Browse NGOs by Name, State, Session

    There are three ways to browse NGOs that were granted observer status, by Name, State and Session. The website remembers which folders (first letter, state or session) you've expanded, and next time you access the page the corresponding folders will be expanded automatically.

    The list of NGOs of a state are also displayed at the bottom part of the state page.

    Appointments of Commissioners for Special Mechanisms

    All appointments related to a special mechanism are aggregated in one list and displayed in the special mechanism page. The appointment list is hidden by default, click on Appointments link on the right side of the page below the Working Group Chairperson / Special Rapporteur. The list will appear below the introductory text.

    Notice: only Commissioners are displayed in the appointments list and feature a personal page.
