The Study Group on Freedom of Association was established by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights with the adoption of Resolution 151 at the 46th Ordinary Session held in Banjul, The Gambia from 11-25 November 2009. The resolution expresses the African Commission’s decision to:
- initiate a study on the laws governing freedom of association and practices that violate freedom of association in Africa; to
- ensure wider dissemination of the said study; and
- take effective measures to ensure that States take into account the outcomes and findings of the said study.
