Ms. Sheila Beedwantee Keetharuth

Sheila B. Keetharuth[Member since 2014] is a committed human rights advocate from Mauritius having extensive experience in research, advocacy, litigation and training in Africa. Since March 2017, Sheila has been a Panellist of the International Commission of Jurists’ Initiative on operational level-grievance mechanisms for business related rights abuses.  In November 2018, Ms Keetharuth was appointed as an expert member of the Second Team of International Experts on the situation in the Kasai, DRC. Ms Keetharuth was appointed as the first UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea in October 2012, a position that she held until 2018. From 2014 to 2016, she also served as a member of the Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in Eritrea. After reading for an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Civil Liberties, she was called to the Bar in Mauritius in January 1997.
