Ms. Valerie Couillard


Valerie Couillard[Member since 2011] is an international human rights lawyer with expertise in strategic ligation and legal empowerment. Her experience in the business and human rights sphere includes: women's rights, land rights, indigenous peoples' rights and freedom from slavery. She acted as senior programme manager and legal advisor for Forest Peoples Programme and Minority Rights Group International, where she provided legal advice and advocated for the rights of peoples affected by land dispossessions linked to environmental conservation measures, extractive industries' activities and the implementation of climate change policies and programmes. She has been an expert member of the Working Group since its creation in 2011 and earlier in her career she worked at the Secretariat of the African Commission as a Legal Officer assisting the Special Rapporteur on the rights of women in Africa.
