Press Release on the ratification by Angola and the effective deposit of its instruments of ratification of the Protocols to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Older Persons and on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa
The Working Group on the Rights of Older Persons and People with Disabilities in Africa (the Working Group) warmly welcomes the announcement made by the Republic of Angola that it has deposited with the competent organ of the African Union, its instruments of ratification of the Protocols to the African Charter on the Rights of Older Persons and on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Working Group commends the Republic of Angola for this development, which brings the number of ratifications of the first Protocol to seven (7) and four (4) for the second.
The Working Group also seizes this opportunity to again call on States Parties to the Charter to urgently work towards reaching the 15 ratifications required for the entry into force of these instruments.
